About me

Mademoiselle Kim ( born July 20th 1976 ) is a French self-taught figurative painter based in Paris, France.

Her often small scale paintings generally depict real people.

“When someone inspires me, I paint them. Sometimes it could be a random person I meet, a lover, an artist I like, but most times I choose to portray people in my surroundings.”

Her expressive portraits are often emotionally intense and haunting. Most of the portraits are naïve close-up headshots made with oil pastels, filled with visibly pronounced lines and vibrant colors.

Inspired by the likes of Paula Modersohn Becker, Alice Neel, Sher-Gil, Chantal Joffe, Suzanne Valadon, Charlotte Salomon and Modigliani. Her intimate portraits are stylistically simple but visually complex.

“I love the Modigliani’s quote, ‘When I know your soul, I will paint your eyes. With one eye you are looking at the outside world, while with the other you are looking within yourself.’”
